RING CARE GUIDE

How to Clean Your Engagement Ring at Home

Even engagement rings need a little pampering.

Makeup, skin oil, lotion, conditioner, dirt, and dust can easily accumulate on the metal and stone, dulling their sparkle. However, a bit of at-home TLC can restore your ring to its perfect, shiny condition!

What You’ll Need:

Mild gentle soap

Bowl of warm water

Soft toothbrush

Engagement ring needing some sparkle

Step-by-Step Cleaning Process:

1. Let it Soak:

Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of liquid dish soap.

Let your ring soak in this mixture for a few minutes.

2. Gently Clean:

Use a soft toothbrush to carefully and gently scrub your ring, paying special attention to the hard-to-reach areas within the setting.

Note: If you notice the setting is loose, avoid scrubbing with a toothbrush. Instead, gently soak the ring in water or return it to us for a setting check.

3. Rinse:

After cleaning, rinse your ring well under running water.

Let it air dry or use a lint-free cloth to dry it.

Avoid using harsh cleaning products on your ring, as they can damage the precious stones and metals. For a deeper clean, use a non-toxic and non-abrasive commercial jewellery cleaning product specific for moissanite or diamonds. Alternatively, you can take your ring for a professional cleaning and a regular setting check to ensure it remains in top condition without the hassle.

When to Remove Your Engagement Ring

Once you’ve slipped your beautiful ring on your finger, it’s understandable that you might never want to take it off. Diamond and moissanite, some of the hardest and most durable materials, are perfect for everyday wear when treated with care. However, there are certain situations where removing your ring can help preserve its shine and durability. We recommend taking off your ring in the following scenarios:

In the Shower, Pool, Hot Tub, or During Tanning:

To maintain your ring’s beauty and longevity and to minimize the risk of losing it, remove it before entering the shower, pool, hot tub, or tanning. High levels of chlorine in pools can add grime to your gemstone, blocking light and dulling its sparkle. While 18k gold resists chlorine damage better than white or rose gold, significant damage typically only occurs with prolonged exposure. Chemicals and heat from showers, hot tubs, or tanning can also damage your ring’s setting. Always place your ring in a safe location when removing it.

At the Gym:

Avoid wearing your ring to the gym, especially during activities involving contact, like weightlifting or boxing. Such activities can damage the metal, potentially causing the band to warp or snap over time.

In the Ocean:

Remove your ring before going to the beach or swimming in the ocean. Salt water can discolor and weaken the precious metals in your ring. Additionally, cold ocean water can shrink your fingers temporarily, increasing the risk of your ring slipping off.

While Doing House Chores:

When cooking, cleaning, or gardening, it’s important to protect your ring. Cleaning products, hand sanitizers, and other chemicals can discolor the precious metal. Also, physical activities involving your hands can lead to damage.

In Bed:

While it’s up to personal preference, we recommend removing your ring before bed for extra protection. Wearing your ring to bed can result in snagging on sheets, hair, or clothes, potentially damaging the prongs and loosening the stone. If you choose to remove your ring, place it in a safe place like a ring dish, fabric-lined jewellery box, or ring pouch.
